1. Schedule your day. Post a schedule for your child to foster independence and responsibility.
2. Provide your child with a place to do their schoolwork free of distractions. (T.V., video games, siblings playing, ect.)
3. Have on hand a supply of paper, pencils, an eraser, rulers, or anything that your child might need to complete their work.
4. Be close, but not too close! Allow your child time to work independently. Be close by if they have questions, but do not sit down to do the work with them. They need to learn to be independent!
5. Check over their work when they are finished! This allows them the opportunity to correct mistakes at a time where bad or incorrect habits could be formed. Let them know if something needs to be corrected, then let them make the corrections on their own. If they need additional help, that is where I need to come in! :)
